Description

Out of Order is a debut poetry collection by Alexis Sears, winner of the 2021 Donald Justice Poetry Prize. This diverse and unflinching work explores themes of identity, vulnerability, and resilience.

The poems in this collection navigate the complexities of growing up as a biracial woman, tackling topics such as misogyny, mental health, race, and family dynamics. Sears draws on pop culture references and literary influences to explore desire, adaptation, and the search for confidence and self-acceptance.

With its masterful use of form and language, Out of Order offers a powerful blend of honesty, humor, anguish, joy, and surprise. This is a collection that will resonate with readers looking for authentic and unflinching poetry about the human experience.
