Lou leaves her job as a librarian to catalog the books in a Victorian mansion on a remote Canadian island, owned by an enigmatic deceased colonel. She soon discovers that the island has another inhabitant: an oos. As she realizes this is the only companion available to her, a strange and intimate relationship develops between them. This unusual bond leads Lou to embark on a journey of self-discovery. The novel explores themes of loneliness, companionship, and personal growth. A unique and thought-provoking story, Oso has been widely acclaimed for its portrayal of human relationships with animals. First published in 1976, the book won the Governor General's Literary Award and is considered one of Canada's most notable novels.
