Description

Ordinary Ethics in China by Charles Stafford explores the moral and ethical issues that arise in everyday life in Chinese communities. Through an anthropological lens, Stafford examines how individuals navigate complex questions such as how to deal with difficult students, repay debts owed to parents, and cope with jealousy when neighbours become wealthy. This book approaches these questions on a human scale, considering the historical contexts and cultural traditions that shape them. By participating in the flow of everyday life during ethnographic fieldwork, Stafford sheds light on the ways in which ordinary ethics are lived out in Chinese communities.
