Description
On the Eighth Day: A Catholic Theology of Sport This book explores the relationship between sports and religious faith from a Catholic perspective. It examines sport's universal appeal, rich symbolism, and spiritual and moral characteristics, arguing that embodied games can be sacramental and that traditions of the past speak to contemporary peoples. The author draws on themes such as truth and justice being demanded in a world affected by sin, and the playful, re-creative work of God the Creator embodied in Christ's resurrection. The result is a comprehensive yet accessible exploration of Christian attitudes towards modern sport, offering new insights into the role of faith in sports participation. Suitable for both thoughtful lay sports fans and academic students, this book provides a fresh perspective on the intersection of religion and sport.
