Description
Carl Schmitt's spatial thought has had a profound impact on modern politics and international relations. This comprehensive study offers the first systematic examination from a geographic perspective of one of the most important political thinkers of the twentieth century. Schmitt's work explores the relationship between space and 'the political', arguing that spatial concepts play a crucial role throughout his oeuvre, from analyses of sovereign power to historical accounts of modernity. The book charts Schmitt's development as a thinker, tracing the evolution of his ideas in relation to his changing biographical and intellectual context. This study sheds light on the enduring influence of Schmitt's spatial thought on key debates about sovereignty, international relations, war, and world order, making it an essential read for scholars and researchers in these fields.
