Description
The Soviet experiment and its lasting impact are explored in this candid memoir by Mikhail Gorbachev. Drawing on his own experiences and rich archival material, Gorbachev offers a nuanced perspective on Russia's past, present, and future role in the world. Gorbachev reflects on key events such as the October Revolution, the Cold War, and the fall of the Soviet Union, providing insight into the complexities of socialism and its limitations. He also shares his thoughts on perestroika, the goals of reform, and the challenges of uniting a vast superpower. The book concludes with Gorbachev's vision for Russia's future, including ways to strengthen the federation and achieve meaningful economic and political reforms. In this thought-provoking work, Gorbachev shares his perspective on foreign policy, including the "new thinking" that helped end the Cold War and address global crises.
