Description

How sound shapes our understanding of ourselves and the world around us is a complex task that our brains undertake with remarkable ease. In "Of Sound Mind", Nina Kraus explores this intricate relationship, revealing for the first time how the processing of sound drives many of the brain's core functions.

The way we engage with sounds goes beyond mere hearing; it involves interactions between our brain, emotions, thoughts, movements, and other senses. Auditory neurons make rapid calculations, making sound the fastest of our senses. Kraus examines the impact of music on healing and the destructive power of noise on the nervous system.

Through her research, Kraus shows how our engagement with sound leaves a lasting imprint on who we are, shaping our brains in profound ways that can be both beneficial and detrimental. This book offers a fascinating insight into the fundamental role of sound in constructing our sonic world.
