Description

Notes of a Russian Sniper by Vassili Zaitsev is a harrowing account of one man's survival in the most extreme conditions. In 1942, Zaitsev volunteered to fight at Stalingrad and was quickly recognised for his talent as a sniper.

The battle was a brutal struggle to survive, with soldiers fighting street by street and living like rats in desperate attempts to stay alive. It was here that the sniper became an unseen enemy, fraying the nerves of brutalised soldiers. Zaitsev's exploits, including a famous 'duel' with a Nazi sniper, remain legendary.

With 225 confirmed kills, Zaitsev's tactics are still studied today. His account is absorbing for anyone interested in World War II and the psychological warfare that took place during this period.
