Description
Valerie Smith explores the complex connections between race and gender in Black feminist thought. This collection of readings challenges essentialist tendencies and offers a nuanced understanding of how these intersections shape lives and social practices. Smith's approach is rooted in critical rigor, examining issues such as the Central Park jogger case and contemporary media representations. By resisting uniform models of black women's experiences, she aims to preserve the power of black feminist thought. Through her analysis, Smith seeks to promote a more nuanced understanding of race and gender, one that acknowledges the diversity of black women's lives and experiences.
