Description
Nil Sorsky: The Authentic Writings is a collection of writings by Nil Sorsky, a 15th-century Russian Christian who founded the Sora Hermitage and was closely associated with the Orthodox contemplative prayer known as hesychasm. This translation brings Nil's voice to modern readers, offering insights into his life and works. Nil's writings are set within the context of the Russian monastic tradition, drawing on Slavic sources that informed his spiritual practice. The introduction and notes provide a clear understanding of Nil's place in this tradition and offer a unique perspective on pre-modern Russia's outstanding teacher and writer. Translated by David Goldfrank, a specialist in Russian studies, this edition is accompanied by an introduction and notes that accurately situate Nil within the historical context of his time.
