Description

Rainer Maria Rilke's New Poems is a groundbreaking collection that marked a significant shift in his writing style. Commissioned to write about Rodin, Rilke found himself drawn into the sculptor's "art of living surfaces," which would influence his own pursuit of an objective ideal. In this revised bilingual edition, Rilke's poetry takes on a new form, moving away from expression and toward making realities. Poems such as "The Panther" and "Archaic Torso of Apollo" showcase the poet's newfound focus on materiality and the world around him. Translated by Edward Snow, this selection brings together two companion volumes in a torrent of brilliant work. With its unique blend of style and substance, Rilke's New Poems is a testament to his innovative spirit and artistic vision.
