Description

Charles Barbara's My Lunatic Asylum brings together six of his most compelling tales in English for the first time. Originally published as Mes petites-maisons in 1860, this collection showcases Barbara's mastery of science fiction, Naturalism, and the roman policier genres. From the obsessive world of "Outline of the Life of a Virtuoso" to the technological excesses of "Major Whittington", and the psychological insights of "Irma Gilquin", this selection reveals a writer whose influences were diverse and whose ambitions were significant. A neglected figure in literary history, Barbara's work is now being rediscovered for its unique blend of style and substance. This collection offers a fascinating glimpse into the life and work of an early author who was ahead of his time.
