A senior executive at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford is found dead with a bullet wound to the head. The local police rule it a suicide, but Gladstone Marriott suspects foul play. Daniel Wilson, a private enquiry agent with experience investigating high-profile cases, is hired to discreetly investigate. Wilson's enquiries are complicated by an interfering Special Branch agent and the museum's bureaucracy. As he works alongside his partner Abigail Fenton, they uncover secrets about the aristocracy and must use their intellect and ingenuity to unravel the truth. With a web of intrigue and unlikely alliances, Wilson and Fenton navigate a complex world of politics, artefacts, and lost treasures.
