First published posthumously in 1934 and later collected in Phoenix II, Mr Noon is a sardonic tale about Gilbert Noon's amorous adventures. When he loses his job and becomes disillusioned with the narrow provincial morality of his home county, he decides to leave the country.
The Cambridge edition brings together the two parts of this long story for the first time, offering a new work of major importance in Lawrence's canon. This novel is like a sequel to Sons and Lovers, but it is more straightforwardly autobiographical.
