Description
More Than Weeds is a debut poetry collection that explores the language of migration and its connection to plant and animal species, as well as people. The poems delve into botanical and ecological detail, revealing hidden histories in the spaces between definitions.
The collection draws on decolonialising botany and horticulture movements, as well as the impact of climate crisis and regenerative gardening practices. Kiew's poetry is alive with the interconnected nature of things, shaped by forces of nurture, family, food, refuge, and love. Human and plant voices speak for themselves in these vivid poems, examining experiences of belonging and displacement, as well as encounters with violence.
These poems ask us to scrutinise what lies within or beyond the boundaries we draw - whether those between weed and wildflower, borders, or hostile environments.
