Description

The premier scholar-poet of the Hellenistic age, Callimachus, was a master of language and form. His poetry reflects his vast learning and innovative spirit, reworking the traditions of his predecessors in elegant and expressive ways. This collection presents all that currently survives of Callimachus' works, including ancient commentaries and scholia. It includes three volumes: Volume I features Aetia, Iambi, and lyric poems; Volume II contains Hecale, Hymns, and Epigrams; and Volume III comprises miscellaneous epics, elegies, other fragments, and testimonia. The Greek text is based on Pfeiffer's edition, enriched by subsequent discoveries of papyri and the judgment of later editors. The notes and annotation are fully informed by current scholarship, providing a rich understanding of Callimachus' poetry and its significance in the literary canon.
