Description

Mariella Nigro's Memory reworked is a poignant exploration of the ongoing impact of childhood trauma and the power of poetry to come to terms with loss. The book weaves together memoir, philosophical inquiry, and personal reflection to create a unique and powerful work. Nigro's poems are a meditation on the insufficiency of language to capture human emotion and memory, yet the reality that it is our only means to express ourselves. The ghost of a beloved sister haunts these poems, as does the need for repetition, the compulsion to return to sites of loss and pain. In this poetics, Nigro transforms the visceral experiences of loss into a journey where grief and healing coexist within the mess of language. Through her work, Nigro elegantly salvages beauty from the wreckage of memory, creating a poem that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.
