Description
Hans Jonas's memoir offers a unique insight into the life and thought of one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. Spanning over seven decades, this collection of previously unpublished materials provides a nuanced picture of German Jewry during the Weimar Republic, German Zionism, and the experiences of Jewish emigrants in Palestine and New York. Organized by Christian Wiese, this memoir draws on Jonas's personal diaries, letters, interviews, and public statements to reveal his intellectual journey. From his early studies with Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger to his later work on ethics and responsibility, Jonas's life is a testament to the power of philosophy in shaping individual and collective responses to some of the most pressing issues of the 20th century. This memoir provides a fascinating glimpse into the intellectual and personal history of Hans Jonas, a figure whose thought has gained increasing recognition among scholars in recent years.
