Description
Herman Melville's writing has long been rich with philosophical ideas, yet there is relatively little written about what makes his work philosophically significant. This collection of essays addresses this gap by examining various philosophical contexts for Melville's work, taking seriously his writings as philosophy, and considering how modern philosophers have used him. The book intervenes across literary studies and philosophy, carving new paths into the work of one of America's most celebrated authors. By exploring these themes, readers can gain a deeper understanding of Melville's writing and its ongoing relevance in contemporary thought. Through this collection, Melville Among the Philosophers offers a fresh perspective on an author who continues to enchant and challenge readers well into the twenty-first century.
