Description

The Amazonian Basin: A Symbol of Ecological Disaster and Artistic Expression. This richly illustrated catalogue brings together over 100 works by more than 50 artists from the online marketplaces region, spanning five decades. The exhibition, conceived in collaboration with Catherine Petitgas' collection, showcases a fascination with the basin's unparalleled biodiversity and the ever-changing beauty of its tropical forest. The title, Mecarõ, meaning "the spirit of the forest" in Krahô language, reflects the artists' deep connection to their land and traditions. The catalogue features specially commissioned texts by independent curator Kiki Mazzucchelli, anthropologist Pedro de Niemeyer Cesarino, and art critic Claire Luna, each offering a unique perspective on the online marketplaces region and contemporary artistic practices. Two interviews with Catherine Petitgas and artist Sol Calero complete the publication. With its extensive collection of artworks and insightful commentary, this catalogue provides a valuable insight into the complex relationships between art, culture, and the environment in the online marketplaces Basin.
