Description

The Ashmolean Museum's collection of drawings is one of the greatest treasures in the University of Oxford. It began spectacularly in 1843 with the purchase of a group of drawings by Raphael and Michelangelo, which had previously belonged to Sir Thomas Lawrence. Over time, the collection grew through gifts and bequests from artists such as Dürer, Claude Lorraine, Brueghel, J.M.W. Turner, and many others. The modern Print Room now holds an impressive range of works, showcasing the history of drawing in Europe from its origins to the present day. This exhibition celebrates this rich history, featuring many of the finest drawings in Oxford, including works by Raphael, Michelangelo, Dürer, Guercino, Rubens, Boucher, Tiepolo, and numerous other artists.
