Description

Maria Lassnig: A Life of Artistic Courage Natalie Lettner's biography chronicles the remarkable journey of Maria Lassnig, an artist who defied conventions to forge her own path. From her early years in Austria to her rise as a pioneering figure in the international art scene, Lassnig's story is one of perseverance and determination. Lassnig's struggles with stereotypes and expectations are well-documented, from her mother's desire for her to marry up to the art world's expectation of a "sweet and pretty girl." Despite these obstacles, she remained committed to her art, eventually becoming the first woman professor of painting in German-speaking countries. Her life is a testament to the power of talent, persistence, and single-mindedness. This biography offers a nuanced and insightful look at Lassnig's extraordinary life, shedding light on the challenges she faced as a woman artist and the triumphs that ultimately defined her legacy.
