Description
Michael Henry Heim was a translator of remarkable scope and impact. Over his career, he translated more than sixty works from eight different languages, bringing literature to a wider audience. His influence extended beyond translation itself, shaping the way it is taught in universities. Heim's legacy is complex and multifaceted. A generous donor, he established the PEN Translation Fund, supporting emerging translators. His work also inspired a new generation of translators at UCLA. This book offers a unique insight into Heim's life and teachings, drawing on his own writing, essays by authors he worked with, and reflections from those who knew him. A fascinating portrait of a quiet, humble man, The Man Between sheds light on the life and work of Michael Henry Heim, a translator whose impact will be felt for years to come.
