Description

Makoons, named for the Ojibwe word for little bear, is the story of an Ojibwe family in nineteenth-century America. After traveling to the Great Plains of Dakota Territory with their family, Makoons and his twin must learn to become buffalo hunters and help their people make a home in a new land.

Based on Louise Erdrich's own family history, this book features black-and-white interior illustrations, a note from the author about her research, and a map and glossary of Ojibwe terms. A vision has foretold great challenges that Makoons' family may not be able to overcome.

This is the fifth book in the series and continues the celebrated Birchbark House series by acclaimed author Louise Erdrich.
