Description
Maimonides' Guide of the Perplexed is a complex and demanding work that has challenged readers for centuries. Written in a guarded manner to convey different meanings to various readers, it contains statements that are both contradictory and open to interpretation. This guide provides a clear and accessible explanation of Maimonides' thought, making it possible for readers new to his philosophy to engage with the text. Alfred L. Ivry's comprehensive guide offers a chapter-by-chapter exposition of the widely accepted Shlomo Pines translation, accompanied by a paraphrase that clarifies key terms and concepts. The book also delves deeper into the philosophical issues raised by Maimonides, exploring metaphysics in both its ontological and epistemic aspects. Suitable for scholars and those new to Maimonides' philosophy alike, this guide provides a nuanced understanding of one of medieval Jewish philosophy's most influential works.
