Description

Fernando de Magallanes: A More Complex Figure Than Expected For centuries, Fernando de Magallanes has been celebrated as a heroic explorer who circumnavigated the globe in an extraordinary display of human courage. However, Felipe Fernández-Armesto's latest work reveals a more nuanced and complex individual, one whose actions were marked by controversy and questionable decisions. Magallanes' voyage was not the straightforward achievement often credited to him. Instead, it was a journey fraught with risk, mismanagement, and exploitation. The author's meticulous research sheds light on Magallanes' true character, exposing a figure who was more interested in personal gain than in making history. This book is a compelling and engaging read that will take you on a journey into the lesser-known aspects of one of history's most famous explorers.
