Description

Luigi Lucioni Modern Light offers a comprehensive look at the life and work of this Italian-American modernist painter. This survey places Lucioni in the context of fellow Regionalist painters, exploring his highly realistic still lifes, landscapes, and portraits drawn from his close-knit circle of queer New York artists. Lucioni's oeuvre is marked by meticulously rendered subjects, including those inspired by his summer retreats in rural Vermont. The artist's style, shaped by his experiences in both urban and natural environments, is characterized by a cool, precise approach to capturing the world around him. Scholars examine Lucioni's materials, techniques, and role in American modernism, providing insight into this lesser-known figure of the art world.
