Description

Louisa Gagliardi: A Monograph of Contemporary Painting This first monograph on Louisa Gagliardi explores her unique voice within the contemporary painting landscape. By drawing from codes of painting, graphic design, and advertising, Gagliardi reconsiders fundamental questions about form and representation. Her paintings exist as reflections of both artist and viewer, as well as our rapidly accelerating digital world. The liminal status of these works, existing as both digitally rendered images and physically confronting objects, speaks to contemporary concerns of self-mediated personas and the narratives of art history. Gagliardi's oeuvre plays with expectations, subverting them simultaneously. A conversation with Mitchell Anderson accompanies this in-depth examination of Gagliardi's work, revealing the tensions between digital smoothness and physical brushstrokes.
