Description

Lost Brighouse and District presents a fascinating photographic history of this corner of West Yorkshire over the decades that have radically changed or disappeared today.

The town's industrial base, which once included cotton, silk, woollen and worsted mills, as well as stone, wire, iron and flour industries, has undergone significant changes since its incorporation in 1893. The construction of the Calder and Hebble Navigation canal in the eighteenth century spurred development, but many of these older industries have declined in recent decades.

Despite this, Brighouse has continued to evolve, with new businesses emerging and the town centre undergoing reconfiguration. This photographic history showcases not only the industries and buildings that have gone, but also people, street scenes, popular places of entertainment and much more.
