Description

Los amnésicos explores the rise of populism and the dangers of historical forgetting. In Mannheim, Germany, where her father is from, Géraldine Schwarz uncovers a family secret that dates back to 1938.

A business deal made by her grandfather, Karl Schwarz, with Jewish owners, the Löbmman family, has left a lasting impact on his legacy. As he confronts a grandson demanding reparations, Karl chooses to deny his role as a Mitläufer, or those who followed the crowd during the Nazi era.

This personal investigation spans three generations and delves into the complex evolution of Germany from dictatorship to democracy. Géraldine Schwarz also examines the gaps in memory across France, Austria, and Italy, highlighting the deliberate amnesia that threatens moral consensus and democracy in Europe today.
