Description
Located in East Texas, Longview was established in 1870 as a result of O. H. Methvin deeding land to the Southern Pacific for a railroad station.
The village quickly prospered as a rail, cotton, and manufacturing centre, becoming the county seat of Gregg County in 1873. The discovery of the East Texas Oil Field in 1930-1931 brought significant growth to the area, cementing Longview's position as a major hub.
Today, with a population of almost 80,000 residents, Longview is a thriving manufacturing, medical, and educational centre, hosting events such as the Great Texas Balloon Race and AlleyFest arts festival. This history of growth and development makes for an interesting read.
