Description

A new virus sweeps the globe, affecting 95% of those infected with only minor symptoms. However, 1% of those infected experience a rare and debilitating condition known as "lock-in", where they are fully awake but unable to move or respond. This phenomenon has a profound impact on society, particularly in the US, where 1.7 million people are affected. In response to this crisis, America launches a massive scientific initiative to find a solution. Two new technologies emerge that offer hope for those locked-in: a virtual-reality environment called "The Agora", which allows them to interact with others, and the discovery of individuals whose brains can be controlled by others, enabling them to "ride" these people and use their bodies as if they were their own. This skill is quickly regulated and licensed, but its potential for misuse raises important questions about power and control.
