Description

Living Colour's Time's Up is a musical and lyrical triumph that defies genre conventions. Released in 1990, this album was recorded in the aftermath of the band's critically acclaimed debut Vivid, and features inspired collaborations with artists such as Little Richard, Queen Latifah, Maceo Parker, and Mick Jagger. The clash of sounds and styles on Time's Up is deliberate and bold, with tracks like "Tag Team Partners" juxtaposing Doug E. Fresh's human beat box with the apocalyptic wail of hardcore-thrash metal. This collision of chaos creates a sense of barely-controlled energy that is both captivating and thought-provoking. Through interviews with Living Colour members and others involved in the album's creation, Kimberly Mack explores the making of Time's Up and its enduring relevance to contemporary social and political issues.
