Miami Beach Lifeguard Towers: A Vibrant Revival In 1992, Hurricane Andrew devastated Miami Beach, prompting a redesign of the iconic lifeguard towers. This striking series of photographs by Tommy Kwak celebrates their vibrant rebirth. By using similar framing and long exposures, Kwak highlights the unique traits of each tower, showcasing their electric color palettes and eccentric forms. Kwak's distinctive approach to photography is evident in his use of angles, light, shadow, and colors. His style transforms these structures into graphic forms, revealing an ephemeral beauty that invites comparison and appreciation. This collection of photographs offers a fresh perspective on the lifeguard towers of Miami Beach. Through 30+ iconic towers, Kwak's work methodically examines the revitalization of South Florida's coastline. A testament to his skill as a photographer, this series is a must-have for anyone interested in architecture, art, or photography.
