Description

When Great Aunt Pearl passes away, Benjamin Carter's summer is looking bleak. His family's ramshackle house is up for sale, and with it, a toxic mix of over-zealous relatives and the Church of the Holy Heavens, a space cult that has been wooing Pearl for years.

As the Carters navigate the complexities of grief, inheritance, and their own complicated relationships, they find themselves under siege by the very property they desire. Alone in the house together, their lives become unrecognisable, consumed by the pursuit of Aunt Pearl's not-quite-worldly goods.

In this darkly comedic exploration of family, belonging, and the mysteries of life, Matt Cook crafts a startling portrait of a young man caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it. A brilliant debut that brings to mind the works of J.D., Life on Other Planets is a funny, shrewd, and satirical novel about finding one's place in the world.
