Len Lye, Motion Composer: Totem & Taboo Sketchbook is a unique collection of artworks and writings by one of the most important experimental filmmakers of the 20th century. This three-volume catalog showcases Len Lye's diverse body of work, including his famous Totem & Taboo sketchbook. The central volume presents the first facsimile edition of this influential booklet, which features transcriptions of texts by Sigmund Freud and Ezra Pound alongside drawings by Maori and aboriginal artists, as well as Russian Constructivists. This artefact is considered one of the most important works of 20th-century New Zealand art. The exhibition that brought this work to light was held at Museum Tinguely in Basel, Switzerland, from October 2019 to January 2020.
