Description

The year was 1943 and WW2 was in full swing. A ship being built in the U.S.A. was nearing completion, destined for the Royal Navy, which desperately needed more warships due to shortages. Men, many of them just boys at the time, manned H.M.S.Goodall and fought against U-Boats, mines, torpedoes, and the sea itself. The ship and nearly half its crew did not last much longer than 18 months, ending in a tragic fire just weeks after the war in Europe had ended. The author's experiences during this time are vividly recalled in this book, drawing on his own service as an 18-year-old sailor protecting special convoys on H.M.S. Carron.
