Description
January 1945. Four young people. A story filled with humanity and hope about the greatest maritime tragedy in history.
The Wilhelm Gustloff, a ship carrying over 10,000 passengers including refugees, crew members, and German soldiers, was destined for freedom but never reached its destination. On January 30th, it became the target of several torpedoes from a Soviet submarine, resulting in one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history.
Author Ruta Sepetys brings to life four young protagonists whose paths intersect when they are evacuated on the Wilhelm Gustloff, alongside over 5,000 children and adolescents seeking a better future. Their stories may not have been lost at sea, but their experiences remain a powerful testament to the human spirit.
