Description

A young boy's summer holiday becomes an unforgettable experience in this true story. In May 1940, Bernard Moscardini and his mother set off from Bedlington, Northumberland for a trip to Sommocolonia in Northern Tuscany.

However, their arrival coincides with the declaration of war by Benito Mussolini on Britain and France, forcing Bernard's mother to scramble to arrange passage back home. As the frontiers close, they find themselves trapped in Italy during World War II.

This is a heart-wrenching tale of a child's life in wartime Italy, as Sommocolonia becomes a battleground during the German retreat in 1944. Against all odds, Bernard's mother must use her determination to ensure their safe return home to England.
