Description
Complete Edition of L'Allegro, Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato by Donald Burrows. This complete edition of Handel's opera features three distinct versions of the work, each reflecting changes made by the composer over time. The 1740 score is a reconstruction based on earlier versions, requiring two sopranos, a tenor and a bass soloist. In contrast, the longer 1741 version includes additional movements to accommodate extra soloists, while the 1743 score boasts a radical rearrangement of movements following a significant change in the work's structure. The three scores included here offer valuable insights into Handel's creative process and artistic evolution. By examining these different versions, musicologists and performers can gain a deeper understanding of the composer's intentions and the historical context in which he worked. With its comprehensive coverage of this complex and fascinating opera, this edition is an essential resource for anyone interested in Handel's music or the history of opera.
