Description

Captain Sir Thomas Kydd is back in England, his successes in the Adriatic hailed by the Prince Regent. However, the Prince's generosity is matched only by his persistence, and Kydd is soon offered the command of HMS Thunderer, a 74-gun ship of the line. Despite its impressive size, the ship is old and in need of significant work to bring it up to fighting standards. Kydd faces numerous challenges as he sets about restoring Thunderer to its former glory. A hostile crew, poor gunnery and sail-handling capabilities make his task all the more daunting. With the ship short of men and no incentives to attract more, Kydd must find a way to overcome these obstacles and prepare Thunderer for the battles ahead. As the threat of Napoleon's army in Russia grows, Kydd is sent to reinforce the Baltic squadron. With the news of the French victory at Borodino, the road to Moscow is now open, and Kydd must lead a vital convoy to the aid of Britain's last ally.
