Karakuri: A Guide to Creating Mechanical Paper Models That Move

This unique book introduces you to the simple mechanisms used to bring to life amazing moving paper models or automata. With pull-out pages for constructing your own models, detailed explanations and diagrams explaining the physics behind karakuri movement, and four full-color models designed by the author, this is a perfect introduction to an ancient art.

Learn about the properties of different types of gears and cams as you build fourteen full-size models, including a whimsical tea-serving robot, an amusing penguin perched on an iceberg, a delightful peek-a-boo-playing teddy bear, and a mesmerizing train that goes around on a track and through a tunnel. Complete directions are included to help you get started.
