Description
Full-color photographs capture the essence of Black juke joints in the Mississippi Delta, revealing a rich and strange cultural domain.
Birney Imes's collection transforms these common gathering places into something evocative and captivating, with names like the Pink Pony and Monkey's Place as much a part of the scene as the people within them.
Complemented by a perceptive essay from Richard Ford, Juke Joint Photographs offers a unique glimpse into a nearly vanished world, where music, community, and place converge in a powerful way.
