Description
The 1964 Declaration on the Jews and its aftermath is a fascinating story of intrigue and diplomacy. In this account, Leon De Poncins recounts the battles behind the scenes of the Vatican Council as various factions vied for influence over the document's fate. The reworked Declaration was eventually passed by the Council and promulgated as the "Schema on non-Christian Religions" in 1965. However, its passage was not without controversy, with traditional Christian doctrine ultimately prevailing despite being a close-run thing. De Poncins' book provides an enthralling insight into this pivotal moment in Vatican history. The author has retranslated and enlarged the original work to bring it up to date, incorporating articles and statements from August 2018, including those of Pope Benedict XVI.
