Description

Football has been Steve Ely's enduring passion for life, rivalled only by his love of birds and birding. This collection of poems brings together twenty pieces that showcase his unique perspective on the sport.

Ely began writing with high hopes of creating a poetic history of football, but the project was eventually cut short after just twenty poems were completed. The resulting chapbook features these original poems, along with an additional selection to bring the total number to eleven.

One poem in particular stands out - a tribute to Lionel Messi that is unmistakably not about the famous footballer. Instead, it's a celebration of the sport itself, and Ely's own place within it.
