Description
English artist John Stezaker reexamines various relationships to the photographic image in his collages. By appropriating images from books, magazines and postcards, he creates "readymades" that convey witty and poignant meanings through elegant juxtapositions. Stezaker's use of publicity shots of classic film icons results in hybrid stars that dissociate the familiar and take on an uncanny quality, destabilizing our idealization of celebrity. This new volume includes an essay by writer, curator and artist David Campany, providing further insight into Stezaker's work.
