Description

Jimmy DeSana Suburban is a surreally lyrical and sexually charged collection of photographs made by Jimmy DeSana between 1980 and 1983. For his series Suburban, DeSana staged photos of nude subjects in evocative poses, entwined with everyday objects and lit with gel-covered tungsten lights. DeSana's approach to the body was distinct from that of many photographers, who often use eroticism as a central theme. Instead, he sought to de-eroticize the body, examining stereotypes and norms in his work. This series is a key part of DeSana's oeuvre, offering a unique perspective on the human form. This book represents an essential contribution to the evolving canon of contemporary photography and queer culture, as interest in early 1980s art and photography continues to grow.
