Description
Jews Against Themselves by Edward Alexander explores the complex phenomenon of anti-Zionism among Jewish intellectuals and its connections to traditional anti-Semitism. The book delves into the history of Jewish self-hatred in 19th-century Europe, examining how it has evolved over time. Alexander also examines the reactions of disaffected Jews to two pivotal events that have shaped modern Jewry: the Holocaust and the founding of Israel. He then turns his attention to contemporary anti-Zionism, including its role in the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement. A final essay considers the challenges faced by American Jews in navigating their relationship with Judaism and the media. This thought-provoking analysis sheds light on a pressing issue affecting Jewish communities worldwide.
