Description

Jeroboam's Royal Drama explores the characterization of Jeroboam in the Hebrew text, tracing his career trajectory from rags to riches. A close reading of the narrative reveals subtlety and complexity, challenging conventional interpretations that often idealize or vilify biblical characters. The study locates the arrival of Jeroboam's kingship as a direct response to scandalous activity within the Solomonic empire. This nuanced portrayal raises questions about power, leadership, and the role of the prophetic office in national affairs. Keith Bodner's analysis offers a fresh perspective on this enigmatic biblical figure. By examining the Hebrew text, Bodner sheds light on the literary achievement behind Jeroboam's story, yielding surprises for engaged readers. This book is an insightful exploration of 1 Kings 11-14 material, offering a thought-provoking analysis of one of the most challenging biblical figures to understand.
