Description

Jane Austen Writer in the World offers an intimate portrait of her life through personal possessions. Kathryn Sutherland's brilliant editing brings together items such as Austen's teenage notebooks, hand-copied sheet music, and lively letters to reveal her family's love of reading and satire, as well as her views on fashion. This lavishly illustrated collection includes homemade booklets where Austen composed her novels, portraits made during her lifetime, and objects associated with the era in which she lived. Newspaper articles, naval logbooks, and contemporary political cartoons shed light on Austen's wider social and political worlds. A unique glimpse into the life of one of literature's most beloved writers. The book features a range of personal belongings that provide insight into Austen's daily life and world. With over 200 objects on display, this collection is a must-have for anyone interested in Austen's life and work.
